Thats what I though when I turned into a teen. I thought I would be treated different, like an adult...what did I know. lol but besides that it was a very nice, poem. Good for a birthday poem
Great poem that made me think. When does childhood end ? Is it indivdual, or forced upon us by others, by peer groups.
I think we can always grow and change up to the second we no longer live.
Good writing.
Let me just say it's a great poem before i ramble xD
When I was younger, I thought being a teen would be so grand- you get all these new things- a car (In US the driving age is 16), got to go out later in the evening and all this stuff. Now I know, that you won't always come home from a party at midnight safe- maybe you won't return at all. And that your friends leave you. And that you're nearly ready to face all the insainty of the world unsheltered :(
So. in short- don't wish you're life away, like a teacher once told me.
Great poem showing the expectations that all of a sudden fall on children's shoulders when they hit the teens. The instant assumtion that they are have to be perfect rational adults when really they are entering their most irratioinal and sometimes immature time of their live.
