Mute.

They wonder why I’m mute, why I’ve given up my speech.

Are they really that blind? Surely they should figure out.

Can they remember all those times they ignored my every word.

When I could stop half way through, and they never had a clue.

Was I really not important, did I mean so little to them?

They were meant to be my family, meant to be my friends.

So I sit here all alone, haven’t spoken in some time.

Now they say I’m crazy, now they treat me like a freak.

In a way it’s better than before, better than being ignored.

Author's Note

Often I stop half way through a story during conversation with my 'friends' they don't even notice I'm no longer talking. Because they never listen. I excitedly share an event that happened in my day, have to repeat his name over and over before my father even notices I've spoken in the first place. I tell my mama something she just starts talking about something else entirely, without any recognition of me speaking. My boyfriend, I love him so much so I get excited sharing everything about me yet at times it's like he doesn't even care..he dismisses it with these stupid remarks such as 'Alright then...' or 'fair enough' No I'm not currently mute but sometimes I wonder if they'd even notice if i was eternally silent.

This...... is moving to me. Its amazing how those who you thought were you're friends just don't listen to anything you say. This has happened to me many times before. Not to say i can fully connect, but a truly marvelous poem.

wow i feel this way sometimes. when your talking and people just stop listening, then they wonder why i dont speak all the time. to all those people who do this to others, the answer to why we dont speak all the time is becuse you dont listen. like you said in the authors comment, i too wonder if people would notice if i just stopped talking thanks for writing this i have felt this way for a while. :)

Totally can relate, and it breaks your heart and ruins any self importance when people are rude like that and won't listen or when they act like they're listening. Especially when you don't do that to other people. Just make a point to do right to people who deserve and need it and promise some good karma will come your way, people will listen. Hang with the wrong crowd or selfish people and you don't get those things, luckily good people exist and I'm one of them who hates ignorance, if ever you want to vent or talk I'm here ;D with the rest of the reveiwing awesome people XD
