Chapter Three: Marie

He just continued to eat while watching me. His dark gaze had me intoxicated, he knew that by the way he smirked. I was so intrigued and scared that almost forgot about Justen.

“Mar..?” I blinked a few times and settled my gaze on Justen. “Yeah?” I asked. He shuffled in his seat, “You were just talking about last week when you were with Gram, and then you suddenly stopped talking. Are you okay?” Yeah, for a 6 year old, Justen was really smart at observing people. “N-nothing. Are you done eating?” I looked down at his plate and then mine, he had eaten all his and I barely touched mine. I inwardly groaned, all thanks to Liam. I saw him walk into the restaurant, and I tried to hide myself with my hair, but Justen started asking questions. “Okay, uh. I’ll just get a take home carton.” I said, looking around for a waiter. Justen raised his eyebrows, “You never take your food home though.” I gulped, “Yeah well things change sometimes.” I snapped. Oh my, what is wrong with me? Justen dropped his gaze and frowned. “Justen I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you. I guess, I’m a bit tired.” That was my first ever lie to him, and I actually said it fluently without stuttering. Justen slowly formed a smile on his face and looked at me with his gorgeous green eyes. “It’s okay, I understand Mar. “ I smiled. “How was your meal?” I nodded, “Great. Can I get a take home carton please?” The waitress nodded her head and smiled. “Of course, I’ll be right back with that.” I shifted in my seat and rest my hands in my lap. “Is Mom going to be home when we get back?” Justen asked with hopeful eyes. “Yeah, she should be there in about an hour.” I checked my phone and it said 5:30. “Here is your take home carton. Have a nice day.” I smiled at the waitress and slid out of my seat. Justen instantly grabbed ahold of my hand once we got outside. “Honey, you don’t always have to hold my hand.” Justen shrugged. “I feel safer.” He whispered. I smiled and squeezed his hand.

“Mom?” I stepped through the corridor of our house and looked around. Justen was clenching onto my shirt and with every time I’d take a step closer to the kitchen, his grip would get tighter. “Mom?” I raised my voice and waited. We heard shuffling in the kitchen and I froze up. After a few moments, a voice broke out singing Come And Get It, by Selena Gomez. Justen let go of my shirt and ran towards the voice. It felt as if a weight was lifted off my shoulder when I heard my mom. “Oh, hello my babies.” She said, removing the earpieces. “Hey mom.” I hugged her kissed her cheek. “How was Long Island? She asked. “It was great, pizza was amazing.” I shuffled around her and made my way upstairs. Before getting out my homework, I went to my closet and changed into pajamas. They consisted of baggy sweatpants and a t-shirt.  I pulled out my Geometry homework and got down to work.

About an hour later it was nearly 9 o’clock when I had finished. It took me awhile because I get confused very easily. I straightened out my papers and slid them in the folder, and closed my book. I sighed quietly and just set them on my nightstand. I’ll put it away in the morning.

*beep beep* I stuffed my face more into the pillow. Maybe if I suffocate myself I won’t have to go. I shook my head and felt around for my phone, that I had not charged last night. “Damnit.” I mumbled. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and looked at my mini hand clock above my door. “S**t!” My alarm had gone off two hours later than usual, meaning it was 7 a.m. I didn’t care what I looked like. I quickly slipped out of my clothes and grabbed the first pieces of clothing I had seen. The outfit was not all that bad. I slipped on my combat boots, put my Algebra in my backpack and ran down the stairs. Shaggy blonde hair made me stop before barging out the door. “Dad?” He turned around, with a cup of tea in his hand. “Marie? What are you doing home? Your Mother and I thought you left right after you got changed from your run.” I shook my head, “No, my stupid alarm didn’t go off til 7. Why are you home?” Dad smiled. “They had too many people in so I gladly took off. Want a ride?” I nodded. “That could be useful.” Dad picked up his keys and slipped on his boots. “C’mon kiddo.”

The ride to school was terrifying. We slid on black ice twice, and almost ran into a parked car. We made it to the school in one piece, finally. I grabbed my backpack and stepped out of the car. I shut the car door quickly, and sped into the school. I wasn’t really paying any attention as to where I was going. I seemed to be in my own world, until I was snatched into a classroom. The sudden rush made me choke on air. My eyes were squeezed shut and all I could hear was my heavy breathing. “Marie.” I popped one eye opened and saw the sleeve of a black trench coat. I opened my other eye and slowly looked up. I already knew who it was, I just didn’t want to believe it. “Marie, say something.” I felt my lips moving, but only air came out. Ugh, why couldn’t I speak? Liam sighed heavily and pulled at his quiff. “You should go, the bell’s going to ring.” I just nodded and scurried away.

The rest of the day was utter s**t. My favorite hour came around, art. I didn’t know what I was drawing, I just started moving the pencil in various directions. A low, growling-like voice, made me lose focus. “Hmm?” I turned my head around enough to see who it was, and hobby-damn, it was Liam. I gulped, and frowned. He seemed to register the message. “I asked, what it meant.” I looked at my picture again and shrugged. I nibbled at my lip, thinking about, what it did mean. “C’mon, I know there’s some kinda reason you drew that.” Liam urged. I set my pencil down and turned to Liam, noticing that he had sat down next to me. My eyes were fixated on his lip ring, wondering if it hurt. I blinked a few times and met with his deep brown eyes. My mouth opened slowly, and the only word that came out was, “Hi.”
