A Brand New Me

I made the decision to start making my life better, and as an encouragement, I wrote this poem for myself.

I don't want to be who I am anymore.

I'm not being locked up, I'm unlocking this door.

I'm going to be free and be the person I should be,

there's a lock and changing myself is the key.

I'm tearing out of this body, shedding away the past.

I'm putting up the white flag, surrendering at last.

I'll be born again with a brand new plan.

I’ll erase my life, ever since it began.

This time I’ll make it good, 

I'll try my best like I should.

Nothing will get to me, 

I shall see right past the dirty sea,

and look ahead to the clean ocean blue

Where I'll be new and better too.

There's no more excuses to use

so I'll take this flame and light the fuse.

With the flame, I'll gain new light.

No more darkness shall I see,

instead a vision ever so bright,

This is the plan, a brand new me.

Thanks. After I wrote it, I went back and reread it and I felt so amazed that I unknowingly put so many metaphors and vivid descriptions in it. I think the visual depiction makes the affect of the poem more powerful.
