Ex Po Facto

Ex Po Facto

A Poem by Jackson Krauss Blind Painter

 Ex Po Facto

I do my math in pen and paint blindfolded.

I’m not overconfident or under stress;

I’m just hoping my inkblot scatter plot will help me stop yanking my own chain:

I know sometimes I’m nothing special, and how much that means for you.

And even though you’re just hoping to get through the day, I still have hope for tomorrow.

And so the decimal remainders remind me of all the things I forgot:

That you have to cry to see, scream to speak, and

Hug

To destroy.

But don’t ever forget what my smile means.

It means I’ve remembered, and though you cry and scream and hug me…

…My smile won’t falter.
