The Hipster Cowboy

The Hipster Cowboy

A Poem by Jacko Pook

The Hipster Cowboy

A liberal youth went ridin’ out one dark and windy day

The Shoreditch

Autumn morning

Welcomed the wannabe John Wayne.

His whiskey-breath betrayed his liquid brunch.

On horseback he patrolled

Through the wind and the cold

Those streets in central London.

He had that look in his eyes…

…He’d been hunting native Americans before it was cool.

When’s he’s not here he’s an artist " always the quickest to draw.

I saw his piercings and tattoos

As he lassoed

Himself a corporate cup of coffee; caffeine

                And skinny jeans "

The perfect tools to fight the mainstream.

I thought I smelled a smoking barrel

But it’s just a cigarette, freshly lit.

Yes,

You guessed "

American spirit.

Wiping the Starbuck froth from his moustache

That hero rode out of sight.

A counter-culture legend of the western world.

The good, the bad, and the ugg boots in a man’s size.
