Lunch Money

Lunch Money

A Poem by simpleminds
"

Old School

"
Lunch in middle school used to be reduced to 20 cents
we got a good meal and a cup of milk
Warm with green beans and a slice of ham
Mother gave to me 20 cents

So I would have no change
Me being young I would give it away
To a needy child or so I thought
So Mother knowing her son

was being made the fool
at the local middle school
Tried to hold on to that extra nickel
He would give away to a friend in need

Lunch money was hard to come by
so it seems but I learn a lot
from my middle school pals
Never got my nickels back

They were for the needy
and I was needy too.

simpleminds,
Children's outlook in an adult world; we can just identify having the memories of this time. Now it seem like forever ago. I remember hot lunches and how special to sometime have that days payment for decision made from the monthly school changes. My grandma was a school cook so we knew it was so good. Wonderful stroll down memory lane...............Kathy .........My poems are about nature. Maybe I will branch out enentually.
