CloserA Poem by Jackie Rose
walking down the long hallway, i take in everything, the smell of your shirt that you lent me, that is shoved in my bag. the feeling of my fingers brushing up against the lockers because i am forcing myself to stay to the right, because god knows that i cant stray too far into the hallway, which is not even close to capacity. the sound of you laughing to your cool new friends as i get closer and closer. you are talking about the chick you banged last night, closer, you are talking about the stupid pop quiz in geometry, closer, you are now reaching for the hand of the head cheerleader standing next to you, closer, you are shifting from one foot to the other, like you always did when you would sneak in my window to calm yourself down because your dad came home drunk again, why didn't you come last night, you dad came drunk again, didn't he? closer, you are talking about how you are so glad to make the team and was able to ditch your loser of a friend, past. i walk past you, you not giving me a glance, i past you, and i'm not going back.
