Thoughtless

Thoughtless

A Poem by Jacob Nimble

Lacking thought and lacking feeling

mind is cracked and slowly bleeding

words fall out like drops of oil

icy blood will slowly boil

cracks in concept

logic cut

forgotten in this well-worn rut

I wonder if I can concede

to pain and rain, the blood I bleed

so much blood

and so much greed

I want it all

and yet it’s clear

it’s likewise something that I fear

Maybe tomorrow

I will see

if anything’s worth it to me

it seems rather unlikely

I wish it weren’t so

so cold

so hot

such dreadful rot

all laid out here without a thought

gross revision

here an incision

it all leads

to painful prison

prison of the words

collapsing in

and crushing my conscious

beneath boulders of sound

a husk is all that’s left

a drone

working on

night and day

smiling softly.
