Everywhere you go it’s a ghost town Cars, stores, homes; all eerily frozen in time Remains of a civilization that’s gone now A corroding portrait of grit and grime.
The plague has lasted so long I don’t even know the current time or date Radios crackle static instead of song Newspaper butterflies frolic in this land of damaged states.
There’s not as many other people around The population now husks of what were human beings Zombies roam in droves, thousands abound They feverishly seek their next feeding.
It’s worse at night as they seem to rage Their numbers increasing tenfold It’s better to travel during the day But they aren’t the only horrors awaiting this broken world.
Valued more than gold are gasoline and electricity Greed causes some to discard their humanity Resurrected house pets and all manner of animals As well as indescribable, horror novel devils.
Sometimes I meet other survivors When scrounging for supplies and food Others have let their minds rot; raiders Carnage and terror are their daily rituals.
The undead and this cruel world exhaust Earth has become Hell, and they are it’s spawn Some of the people I have met, I’ve lost And everyone I cared for seems to be gone.
Damn, I can hear them at the windows Possessed by hunger, clawing at the walls They’ll enter, cascading like dominos And I’ll have to escape these barren halls.
It’s practically unavoidable With so many of them now, they’ll take over I’m going to survive as long as I’m able But I know all I’ll leave behind, is this memoir.
Damn living dead. Keep growing in numbers.
"It’s practically unavoidable

I’m going to survive as long as I’m able
But I know all I’ll leave behind, is this memoir. "
I liked the above ending. I believe the undead would be disappointed with what we leave behind. I enjoyed the tale in the poetry and thank you for sharing the entertaining poetry.

Not into Zombies...but I could see the little children in Syria walking through the rubble that once was their home. Valentine

I can't imagine where to even begin trying to pick up the pieces after something like that. Thank you for stopping by, it's always appreciated.
