The Shackles of YouA Poem by Jack Necron (Aubrey Jack Peaslee)So tightly they embed into my wrists Strapped by the shackles of you…of you Now there’s no warmth left behind by your kiss Bleeding out a life I once knew…once knew. A promised future’s pages scatter to the winds A thousand colors in the world but none I can see You abandoned me in a baptism of sins I saved you but you walked away from me. I saved you But You walked away From me. At first I’d hoped maybe you’d come back…come back Alas the knife in my spine whispered against that Visions of us dance into twilight garbed phantoms…phantoms Replaying these tired heart broken anthems. Within an emptied bed your face causes me to think A nightly demon questions the what-ifs without cease Your very name causes my chest to sink Tumbling into the fissure of the missing piece. Your name Tumbling into The missing piece. Now I see those shackles are no longer of you…no longer of you They are my own design from tearing myself apart Everything can’t be erased but they can begin anew…begin anew Rewind the tape to what was before we had our start. I too walk away from these now desolate streets From it’s ashes rises a phoenix Burn away the scent of deceit and growth of defeat In favor of a new genesis. From it’s ashes rises a phoenix In favor of a new genesis. © 2017 Jack Necron (Aubrey Jack Peaslee)Reviews
