Dana's Disguise

Dana's Disguise

A Poem by Jack Necron (Aubrey Jack Peaslee)
"

"You wear a mask for so long, you forget who you were beneath it" - Alan Moore.

"

Put on the mask
A seal for the darkness within her cask
Flash a smile of pearl luminance
Distractions from the decadence
Draped gown dark as the soul she lacks
Emptiness’ hands wrap her like poisonous sumac.

False laughs for acting ever staged
Faked feelings now daily charades
Others’ happiness snuff the flames
Heart of ash dully survives as ember
An arresting violet blossom of aster
Emaciated by frost’s echo of a long Winter.

Remove the masque
Time feigns pain into an easy task
Inky mascara runs tear-borne
Whispering scars silenced and sewn
Reluctant devotion as serenity’s amnesiac
Rich in it’s currency, sorrow’s aristocrat.

Shackled to her secretive phenomena
Upon her life a lacquered stigma
Beauty written in elegy instead of sonata
A mind with a thousand thoughts yet a mouth with none to say
Her soul convinced nothing will be okay
Even if they did, would she remain the same?

We can all wear a mask at times, yet some begin to believe the mask is true and forget what face is the reality they no longer believe in. That's the danger with masks, we never know when they shall slip...of at all.
Great write Jack. Takes us on a journey of more than just the mask some try to portray.

This is true, bringing fake positiveness to oneself I am afraid if realization will eat Dana. This poetry somehow reminds me of the movie Shutter Island. Very well written Jack Necron :)

The above lines. Made me think about how we learn to accept less. Would be a better world if we show real face and find places where we do what we need. I liked the question at the end. Thank you Jack for sharing the excellent poetry.
