Secret or SinA Poem by Jack Necron (Aubrey Jack Peaslee)You took me in like a secret or sin Tucked away by your dark corridors within A glimmer transfixed in your eye Hastily hidden whenever someone comes by. It’s a changing of the seasons To which I’m sure you have your reasons Though that knowledge doesn’t reassure It aids the gluttonous cancer devouring my core. Walking on the blade’s edge so long beneath Calluses have become my feet Used to it now; a twisted accepted normality Reaching the end delayed by constant formality. You frequented me like a favorite song Not played as often now as time has gone Sometimes the entire tune completes Others it’s cut short, tucked back to sleep. It’s a third wall breaking daily Shifting from pretend and reality I can’t tell when all is true and well Or the forced stage act from Hell. Hanging by a band of threads over the abyss A day passes as does a strand, none left by the end of this Frightened at first but now calm at the notion For if I do fall, my life will keep on going. © 2016 Jack Necron (Aubrey Jack Peaslee)Featured Review
