Another Time, Another LifeA Poem by Jack Necron (Aubrey Jack Peaslee)What if things had been different?
Perhaps in another time
Things could have been different. Perhaps in another life The past gave birth to a new present. Perhaps in another life We could have been friends. Killing loneliness on countless weekends Confiding in one another Rather than just acquaintances Or worse yet, enemies With hateful stances. Perhaps in another time We could have expressed All the things left unsaid Rather than ignoring our heart Burying them instead At our mind’s behest. Perhaps in another life We could have been lovers Sailing time’s waters Rather than just passing strangers Bumped into by happenstance To whom we give not a second glance. Perhaps in another time We could have done all that we wanted Whilst chasing our dreams in the process. Rather than worry and stress Stating “If only I had acted.” Perhaps in another life We could come together as one: united Treating others the way we would want to be treated Realizing the fate of the world is in our hands. Rather than murder our fellow man Enter endless verbal spars Begetting violence and war. Perhaps in another time We wouldn’t have to wonder About all these things we are left to ponder. We wouldn’t have to worry, fight or cry. We wouldn’t have to grow old and die. Perhaps…in another life. © 2016 Jack Necron (Aubrey Jack Peaslee)Author's Note
