Seasonal Tanka

Seasonal Tanka

A Poem by The Last Dragoon

[Fall]

November twilight,

deep shadows and smokey mist.

She lies beside me,

blankets on a hardwood floor

Oak logs ablaze in the hearth.

[Winter]

Midwinter stillness:

hear the Milky Way shimmer.

In its grand ballroom

the Northern Lights dance lightly

above the silent desert.

[Spring]

Young morning sun pours

through a green lacework window,

warms this winter home.

desert peach and desert plum

sprinkled anew pink and green

[Summer]

I hear her soft breath

and the rustle of blankets.

Why I am bewitched

by exotic melodies

adrift on the desert wind?

[Summer]

Meltwater cocktails,

folded napkin, lipstick smeared,

two empty lounge chairs.

A hint of perfume lingers

after the melody ends.
