Desert Haiku

Desert Haiku

A Poem by The Last Dragoon
"

unconnected, loose theme

"

much nocturnal fuss.

the black foxes have new pups

in their hollow tree.

in the small hours:

busted flushes, broken straights

goin' home in Tap City

a luminous night:

lingering evening twilight

or an early dawn?

another windstorm

rolling across the playa:

more sand on the porch

on a summer night,

rumbles of distant traffic:

song of the Sirens

cool December morn

brings sudden change: east wind, rain

a Nip in the air

apres Halloween:

dead leaves scudding on the wind,

a scream door banging

when she lay with me

twilight wove through her dark hair

now shadows remain

mojave daybreak:

dawn pours through a banded sky,

he rush of crow's wings

frantic weathercock:

"Hey, its rain! away yonder!"

but not here, not now

stiff old baseball glove:

grass, chalk, sunlight, heybatters

forty years past
