Hyde ParkA Poem by Jackchildren on scooters on hot concrete scootering; bicycles with stabilisers squeaking through a mass of mums and dads eager to sit down before ice cream becomes a sludge of muddy something. black birds in regimental droves with black beaks and shiny black tunics of feather; waiting for discarded crusts from toddlers in oversized hats and drooping nappies. a thousand on this stretch have gathered; freshly cut grass and men without hats turning pink; particles of dust settling on greasy tattoos; bees dawdling fat with pollen. across the Serpentine and mayflies hover above patches of water; pollywogs bobbing up and down between hot ducks and sweltering swans. and outside the big tent - horses with bright livery groomed; riders prepared; uniforms pristine and sweating. children laughing at clowns in blue with yellow fluffy bits; juggling balls and oranges on shiny silver monocycles smiling with sad red lips on sweaty white faces in Hyde park. © 2011 Jack |
