The girl from work

The girl from work

A Poem by J Alexander

I looked into her eyes

above the mountainous cheeks

the peaks of which were breath taking

and I did my best to speak

without words

to the beauty within her

and explain how perfect she was

that all the walking I had done

was just a hike to her heart

the space between us becoming shorter over the years

so one day we could travel together

and leave this long lonesome road

I looked into her eyes and made a joke

she laughed and looked away

I couldn’t

I picked up one of the kids we were watching

and he yelled with delight

then promptly vomited all over me

It took everything I had not to drop this child onto the ground

and even more to pry my gave from her elegant lips

which were wide with astonishment

at how controlled and calm a man can be

when covered in freshly digested cheerios and yogurt

we sent the kids to a smaller safer room

of the theater the event was held in

and she helped me get cleaned up

and I fell in love with her then

with no shirt or shoes on

I didn’t even wish for different circumstances

I was happy and smelly and she was beautiful

Oh, I just love this! It was sweet, longing and beautiful! I like the bits of reality with the smelly, messy kids but all the while you were transfixed by her!
