What Love Is

What Love Is

A Poem by Joshua Carl Cruz

love
is an unjust emotion
we all must fear,
for a list of the reasons
i've just written here
number one...
it's almost never ready
and it's rarely ever done
numbers two, and three...
it effects your work when you're away
it wrecks your worth until you're poor
number four...
it seems suspicious
as it's always in your business
number five...
it's drives on the opposite side of
oh my god we're all going to die
and in the absolute wrong direction
number six...
it kicks, and it bucks,
and it snorts like a horse,
and it knocks you on your
a*s, and out of your sorts
but
number six...
it doesn't punish,
number five...
it doesn't relinquish,
number four...
it gives without hesitation
number three...
it cares without explination
number two...
it lives inside our hearts,
alongside our loneliest
lonelinesses, our public
reluctances, our highest
expectations, and our lowest
repugnaces,and yet, love,
one...
it finds it's way through
love
thunders past ugliness
love
champions paths to truth
love
is another chance to find out
exactly what you're made of
love, my friend, love too,
will wind it's way to you

and it is something we can't really control---it has the power over us and determines our feelings and reactions, and we just have to accept the negatives with the positives and try to dwell more on the latter.

good piece...
