I Love You

it's not the best story i've written but it'll do just a cheesy love story :D

 Devin sits in his room at the computer desk, with a text book and a pencil out writing. He looks up at the computer and he messes with the mouse to make the screensaver disappear and a picture of a woman leaning against a red Jeep wrangler on his desktop background. He brings up a music player and he selects play and a song starts to play. He continues on with his homework.

                When he finishes his homework he puts his books up in his book bag and he pulls up on his computer MSN messenger. He signs in and he looks at the names that are online. A girl name at the top of the list is the one he clicks on. When the chat window pops up he types,

                DEVIN: Hey

                KATELYN: Hey

                DEVIN: Wuts up?

                KATELYN: nm u?

                DEVIN: Just got done doin homework

                KATELYN: Oh, that’s cool. Was it easy?

                DEVIN: Yeah, it was just looking up words and stuff.

                KATELYN: Well that’s good

               

                Devin waits a few seconds before replying,

                DEVIN: What’d you do today?

                KATELYN: I skipped school and hung out at home

                DEVIN: I saw you weren’t there, I was worried

                KATELYN: No need to be worried just needed a day off

                DEVIN: Well at least your not sick or anything

                KATELYN: Did you have fun?

                DEVIN: it’d have been better if you were there

                KATELYN: Aw you’re so sweet.

                DEVIN: I try lol

                KATELYN: You know I have a boyfriend right?

                DEVIN: Yeah, I know :(

                KATELYN: I’m sorry, I love him

                DEVIN: I know, I can wait

                KATELYN: I wont ask you too

                DEVIN: You don’t have too

                KATELYN: Well I’m going to get off here, Jeremy’s coming over tonight and I need to get ready

                DEVIN: Okay I’ll talk to you later then

                KATELYN: Bie

                Devin signs off the messenger and shuts down his computer. He gets up from the chair and walks out of his room to down the hall to the stairs and then makes his way down to the kitchen.  His mom is sitting at the table and she has a plate of food in front of her.  He sits down with her and says,

                “What are you doing?”

                “I’m having my dinner. I’ve not eaten.”

                “Did you just get home?”

                “Yeah, what have you been doing?”

                “I just done my homework and talked to Katelyn for a few minutes.”

                “Oh, who’s Katelyn?”

                “Just a girl.”

                “Do you like her?”

                Devin smiles and says,

                “Kinda, but it doesn’t matter, she’s got a boyfriend.”

                “Oh, well don’t get yourself into trouble over a girl.”

                “I’m not mom, I promise. I just talk to her she’s nice.”

                “Well I’m glad you found someone to talk to. You never have any friends over.”

                “Mom; I’ve not really talked to my friends since dad left.”

                “Why not?”

                “I just…I don’t know. I just don’t want them over and to see how bad off we are.”

                His mom looks down at her food and drops her fork, Devin looks at her and says,

                “I’m sorry mom. I’m not blaming it on you. I just don’t want any sympathy from them, ya know?”

                “I know I just wish I could work enough to keep you happy.”

                “Mom, I am happy. My friends though, they will buy me stuff and I don’t want them too, that’s why I’ve stopped talking to them, I don’t want them to pay for me.”

                “I know. I’m sorry.”

                Devin puts his hand on his moms arm and says,

                “You’re not doing anything wrong, okay? All you’re doing is what you can and I appreciate that completely. If I could get a job I would so I could help you.”

                “I don’t want you to get a job; you shouldn’t have to help me.”

                “Well when you want me to get a job just let me know. Okay?”

                “I will sweetie.”

                “Alright, well I’m gonna go to bed, I’ll see you tomorrow night.”

                “Okay, good night.”

                “Night!”

               

                Devin walks up to his room and closes the door, he walks across the room with the lights off and falls onto his bed.

 

                Devin wakes up the next morning and he grabs some cloths from his dresser and goes to the bathroom. He comes out of the bathroom after taking a shower and he goes downstairs, a note is on the table from his mom,

                Devin,

                                I hope you have a great day at school, I made some breakfast this morning before I left, it’s in the refrigerator there is some biscuits, some gravy and some fried eggs for you. I hope you enjoy. I will be home by 10 tonight.

           Love you

                           Mom

                Devin sets the piece of paper back down on the table and he looks in the fridge. He pulls everything out and warms him some up. He sits down and eats the food and when he finishes the dumps his plate and sets it in the sink. He then grabs his book bag and walks out of the door.

 

                Devin arrives at school and he walks down the hall way. He looks around looking for Katelyn when he sees her he wants to walk over to her and talk to her but her boyfriend is beside her, his arm around her waist, he wishes he was in his shoes. Devin walks by and Katelyn sees him and she says,

                “Hi Devin!”

                Devin looks at her and smiles and says,

                “Hi.”

                He continues walking and he smiles to himself. He walks up the stairs to his first period class when the bell rings. He sits in his seat and Katelyn enters the room, he looks at her as she walks in and she walks over to him and says,

                “Mind if I sit here today?”

                “Sure, no problem.”

                Katelyn sits down beside him and he says,

                “So you’re not sitting with your friend today?”

                “Heather will be okay, she can go a day by her self.”

                Devin laughs and says,

                “Alright.”

                “So what’d you do last night after we got offline?”

                “I went downstairs and talked to my mom.”

                “Oh, is that all?”

                “Yeah, I don’t get to see her much; she has to work all the time since my dad left.”

                “Oh, I’m sorry.”

                “Its fine, I kinda enjoy the time alone.”

                “Hmm…”

                Katelyn looks down at her bag and pulls out a notebook and then brings it up on the table and says,

                “Well if you ever get tired of being alone, you can always come over to my house and we can hang out or whatever.”

                “Your boyfriend probably wouldn’t like that.”

                “He’ll get over it.”

                Devin laughs and says,

                “Well in that case I may take you up on that.”

                “Good I’d like to have you come over sometime.”

                “I will.”

                The bell rings and the teacher starts class. Devin sits beside Katelyn with a smile on his face through the entire period.  When the day ends Devin walks home and when he enters his house the phone is ringing. He runs and answers it, he’s still got a smile on his face and he says into the receiver,

                “Hello?”

                It’s his mom,

                “Hey, Devin is your mom.”

                “What’s up?”

                “I’m going to have to work a double shift tonight, so I won’t be there to cook any dinner.”

                His smile fades and he looks down at the floor and he says,

                “Oh, um okay then.”

                “I’m sorry honey; you can order a pizza or something if you want too.”

                “Mom, I’m not mad about the food; I just miss when I could spend time with you.”

                “I know, I need the money though, this is over time.”

                “I understand mom, its okay.”

                “I’m sorry Devin.”

                “It’s okay mom. I’ll talk to you sometime.”

                “Okay have a good night.”

                “I’ll try my best.”

                His mom hangs up the phone and he hears the line go dead. He slams the phone down on the base and he walks up to his room and he signs onto MSN messenger. He sees that Katelyn is online, so he bring up her dialog box and he messages her,

                DEVIN: Hey

                KATELYN: Hey, wuts up?

                DEVIN: Just found out I’m gonna have a night at home alone tonight.

                KATELYN: Aw, I’m sorry, how come?

                DEVIN:  My mom is going to have to stay at work for a double shift.

                KATELYN: That sux, you wanna come over here and hang out for a while?

                DEVIN: You really want me too?

                KATELYN: Yeah, you can’t spend the night but you can hang out for a while

                DEVIN: That’s fine, I’ll be over in let’s say about an hour

                KATELYN: Sounds good, I’ll be here!

                DEVIN: K I’ll be there soon

                KATELYN: Okay

                Devin jumped from the computer not bothering to shut it down or even sign off of MSN. He runs downstairs and out the door without his jacket and keys. He starts walking toward Katelyn’s house.

 

                When he walks up to the door he rings the door bell and waits. He hears someone approaching the door and when it opens he sees a man standing there, he’s clean shaven and he’s wearing a collar green shirt and khaki’s Devin looks up at him and says,

                “Is Katelyn here?”

                “Yeah she’s up in her room, come on in.”

                Devin walks in and the man shuts the door, he holds out his hand and says,

                “I’m David, Katelyn’s father.”

                Devin reaches out and grabs David’s hand and says,

                “I’m Devin, Katelyn’s friend.”

                David laughs and says,

                “You can go on up to her room, it’s the first door you see.”

                Devin looks at David with curiosity and says,

                “Um…okay thanks.”

                “No problem.”

                Devin walks up the stairs and he walks to the first door he sees and knocks on it. Katelyn answers it and Devin’s heart skips a beat, he says,

                “Hi.”

                “Hi, you got here faster than you said.”

                “Sorry, should I leave?”

                Katelyn laughs and says,

                “No it’s fine, I’m glad you’re early.”

                Devin smiles in relief and he goes into her bedroom, she shuts the door behind him. He turns to her and says,

                “So…”

                She smiles and claps her hands together and says,

                “So…what you wanna do?”

                Devin looks around and he eyes the bed for a few seconds and then he turns back to her and says,

                “I’m not sure, you got any ideas?”

                She looks around the room and says,

                “We can watch a movie, if you want too.”

                “That’s perfect.”

                Devin smiles again and she says,

                “Okay, come on.”

                “Where are we going?” Devin asks worried,

                “To go pick out a movie.” Katelyn answers and Devin feels relief again and follows her into the hallway.  

                She leads him to the hallway closet and when she opens it Devin sees a movie collection that is unbelievable. They sort through the movies and they finally pick ‘Fight Club’. They go back to her bedroom and she tells him he can lie on the bed and he does scooting over to give her some room. She climbs onto the bed after she puts the movie in the DVD player and turns the television on. She grabs the remote from the night stand and they both lie on the bed waiting on the movie to get to the main menu. When it reaches the main menu Katelyn presses play and she lays the remote back on the table and lays her head on her pillow. As the movie goes on through she manages to move her head onto Devin’s chest and his arm is around her.

                When the movie is over Devin looks down at her and she is asleep so he just lays his head back on the pillow behind him and lets her sleep falling asleep himself.  She wakes up on her own later that night around 3 in the morning and she realizes that he is still there. She shakes him awake and she says,

                “Hey, were you supposed to be home at a certain time?”

                He wakes and looks at the clock and says,

                “I hope not!”

                Katelyn laughs and says,

                “I’m sorry…I bored you!”

                “No you didn’t I had a great time!”

                “Really? How?”

                “I don’t know…I just did. I enjoy spending time with you.”

                Katelyn smiles and says,

                “I like spending time with you too!”

                “We should do this more often.”

                “Yeah, we should!”

                He looks at the clock and again and he says,

                “I may wanna get home, before I get in trouble with your dad.”

                “Nah, it’s too late for you to go home now. You can stay. He’ll be alright!”

                “Are you sure?”

                “Yeah, what’s he going to do?”

                “Um…kill me! And ground you!”

                “No, he trusts me; he knows I won’t let anything happen unless I want it too.”

                “Okay then. I really hope we don’t get in trouble.”

                “We won’t.”

                They lay back down on the bed and Katelyn puts her head back on his chest and they fall back asleep.

 

                The next day they wake up and Katelyn’s dad is downstairs cooking breakfast. Katelyn and Devin walk into the kitchen together and he looks at both of them and says,

                “Did you two have fun last night?”

                “Yeah, we watched a movie.” Katelyn says,

                “I know I heard it! You had the television up full blast.”

                “Sorry, it didn’t seem that loud to us, we both fell asleep.”

                “Well then you’re both deaf.”

                Devin thought it was amazing that Katelyn and her dad could sit there and have a funny conversation about her having a guy over all night in her room. He sits down at the table and laughs with them and listens to their conversation. When he leaves, she walks him out on the porch and they sit down on the steps and she looks at him and says,

                “You’re really nice, I like you a lot.”

                He smiles and he says,

                “You don’t know how long I’ve waited to hear that.”

                “A part of me thinks I may want to be with you, but I can’t break up with Trevor. Not for someone else, I wouldn’t feel right.”

                “I know, I understand that but like I said, I’ll wait as long as it takes.”

                “It may not be long but then again it may be forever, you think you can wait that long?”

                “I know I can. I’m in love with you.”

                She smiles and looks down at the step and then looks back up at him and says,

                “I do like you a lot. I’m not just saying that.”

                “I believe you.” Devin pauses for a minute and looks out to other houses and then says,

                “Well hey I better go, I wanna try and catch mom before she leaves for work.”

                “Okay, you gonna be on later?”

                “Are you?”

                “Yeah.”

                “Then you know I will be.”

                Katelyn laughs and Devin stands from the step and begins to walk home.

 

                When he arrives home he sees police cars in the driveway and he starts to get worried about his mom. He runs up to the door and swings it open and runs into the kitchen and he sees nothing so he runs to the living room and his mom and two police officers are sitting there, his breathing heavy and he says,

                “What’s wrong?”

                His mom stands and runs to him and puts her arms around him and says,

                “Where have you been, I’ve been worried sick!”

                “Mom, I’ve been at Katelyn’s house, we were watching a movie and we both fell asleep.”

                “Why didn’t her parents wake you and make you come home?”

                “He checked on us and saw that we were asleep so he figured he’d leave us alone. I’m sorry mom, I should have left a note, but I was excited so everything left my mind.”

                His mom’s breathing levels out and she says,

                “It’s alright, just next time you best call or leave a note or something.”

                “I will I promise, I’m sorry.”

                She turns the police officer and says,

                “I’m sorry for all of this.”

                “It’s alright ma’am.” The cop says in a deep husky voice, “I understand what it’s like to be a single parent, no worries.”

                “Thank you.”

                He nods and leaves the house leaving the two of them alone. Devin looks at his mom and says,

                “Are you mad at me?”

                “No, it’s okay. I know you didn’t mean to frighten me.”

                “I’m sorry mom.”

                She pulls him in for a hug and says,

                “It’s alright son, no worries.”

               

                Devin makes his way up to his room and he signs onto MSN and he sees that Katelyn is online but her status says: why is all of this happening now?

                Devin clicks her name and a dialog box pops up and he types,

                DEVIN: Hey, wuts up with your status?

                Devin waits for a reply and it finally says that she’s typing,

                KATELYN: Trevor found out about you staying last night so he dumped me.

                DEVIN: What why?

                KATELYN: Because he doesn’t believe that nothing happened.

                DEVIN: Are you okay?

                KATELYN: I’m fine, I don’t need him.

                DEVIN: Are you sure?

                KATELYN: Yes I’m sure; beside I’ve got someone better

                DEVIN: Who?

                KATELYN: You!

                DEVIN: Me?

                KATELYN: I don’t think you have to wait anymore.

                DEVIN: Are you sure so soon?

                KATELYN: I like you, and the only thing that was keeping me from being with you was Trevor I don’t see what is keeping me from you now.

                Devin’s heart is racing; he’s now dating the girl of his dreams. He asks,

                DEVIN: Can I come back over tonight?

                KATELYN: Of course.

                DEVIN: Okay, I’m gonna go take a shower and stuff and then eat some dinner.

                KATELYN: Okay, I’ll see you later

                DEVIN: I love you

                KATELYN: I love you too :D
