Maya

Maya

A Story by Spilt

Everyone fell in love with her
Girls
Boys
People in general
All swooning, taking secret pictures or her always smiling face
Her voice a husky tone flourishing with happiness
My friends swooned over her so much, they were almost at each other's throats, claiming her for themselves though they barely spoke three sentences with her
There were a bunch of boys, too
All gushing, whispering, repeatedly sending the tongue emoji to each other
There were these two boys
one from my school, one from another
The boy not from my school had taken about a million photos of her, a mischievous grin tugging at his lips
The other boy, who I had some recognition of but weren't good friends with, was with him
Now this boy-he's the type of guy who I'd say fit into the "Popular" category,
though he hates being called Popular
You'd expect him to date the typical white chic; long straightened hair, crop top, always clutching an ice caramel macchiato in one hand, with
Adidas leggings hiked up past her hips
And he always came off as rude, harsh, callous-someone who didn't care
And Maya was in such a different category than the basic white girl
She had such a relaxing aura that seemed to float around her, making anyone near her in a happier mood than before
Her dark brown hair hung in loose waves that framed her face and curled around her dimpled smile
the boy from the other school was scrolling through the pictures he took, as the "Popular" guy hung close to his shoulder
Then, the boy showed the "Popular" guy a picture of Maya, and to my surprise, he turned on his heel, his his face with his hat
So flustered that his ears were bright red
His smile showing dimples
I couldn't quite believe it at first
Him? Flustered? By Maya? Not the typical white girl?
I looked at him again, grinning wildly, leaning over the shoulder of the other boy, his eyes filled with hearts that danced around his complexion
And before, I honestly thought he wasn't the type to be flustered, or gush over a girl like Maya
And I couldn't help but feel a bit glad, seeing a side so vulnerable about him, knowing that he wasn't so masked
So thank you Maya
Though you'll probably never in your life read this,
Thanks for showing me a side of him I never knew existed
Thank you for reminding me that there is a side to everyone that is sometimes unseen

You really built Maya up to be someone special, and it was fun to see how "Mr. Popular" went all agog over her. A pretty girl is a pretty girl, regardless of her ethnicity. (That's how I see it, at least)
