AM I A POET?

AM I A POET?

A Poem by Jvl narasimharao

Can I call myself a poet?

Simply  because  something  I  write

Am I really  destined to that fate?

Some of the scribbling you may even hate

What  makes  one a  great  poet?

Should  one  write  in  free verse?

Does he need to curse?

Can he add some money to his purse?

 What about  rhythm and rhyme

What if one is addicted to this crime?

Is it enough if the poem has an image?

What about Shakespeare, the poetic sage?

Is he not great for any age?

Does he not have a golden page?

What about the worth of wordsworth?

Do all of us know his birth?

Have we not enjoyed his wonderful ode?

Is it not the gate way to literacy road?

Is not kalidasa the king of emotions?

Is he really known to other nations?

Does poetry truly pave the way for great sensations?

I hope this write will atleast improve my poetric relations

Wise introspection - I myself try to refrain from cursing in poetry but I don't know if that makes me a better poet or not.

You express your ideas well and that, to me, makes you a poet. You have a special knack for getting your images across and always rhyme your words well. I enjoyed this one. You ARE a poet. Lydi**

Poetry is all-encompassing...to paint a pc=icture with words is to be a poet...

Oh, I have just completed reading of kalidasa and am so thankful you mentioned him in your poem!! The story of his writing and even of how he died is so fascinating!! I must read more of him, including his poetry. I really like the theme of Vikramōrvaśīyam and think it would be a fascinating read!! There is so much to learn and we poets are so often the messenger of that which we have the opportunity to study!

Oh yes, you are a poet as you weave your words across the page for us to read and learn of your ideas, ways and even your dreams! For instance, I do not know of kalidasa so I am off to do some research and will have learned of something new. Free verse, rhyme - I use both but prefer rhyme, though I experiment with others forms.

We do have messages to deliver to others and often think of myself as one who gives others reason to think, and that is always a good thing!

Thank you for being my poet friend - so far away, yet so near in poetry!!!

You are a Poet, my friend. Word men and women will have doubts. People who love the words and need to write. Are the true writers and poets. I believe a writer must follow his heart and write with joy and hope. I like the old wisdom from the past. "If I write one poem that saved one life. My writing was worthwhile." Thank you for sharing your opinion on my favorite topic.
