WE ARE A SMALL ISLAND

IN Europe we are a small Island

But our history is very grand

We ruled almost the entire land

In commonwealth countries we have the blessing hand

 We gifted the world with an incredible language

In dramatic history Shakespeare has a golden page

Joan of Arc is an incomparable sage

Winston Churchill gave the globe many a great adage

 We are the finest people in the world

 IN law and administration ours is the ultimate word

 We are considered to be the most polite

Undoubtedly, ours is the land of educated elite

 In the past in our kingdom the sun never set

Linguistically we have not lost our hold yet

English is the most popular language, we bet

To study in our famous country one must pass the TOFEL test

You know, every person I know who hails from India has the same or if not better command of the English language as I do - and I was born American to American born parents. Every friend I have who is from India is incredibly intelligent, well read and articulate - without exception. Yet I know some people with whom I grew up who are by definition illiterate. I find that fascinating.

I don't know what the TOFEL test is, but I do know the Endlish to be both polite and well educated.

For non native english speakers like me TOFEL[test of english as a foreign language) is a must to study in native english countries like AMERICA and ENGLAND.Yes.The English are polite and well educated so I like them though colonized India.Thank you Ms Marie for your response

England is a great country, no doubt, but being a citizen of the United States, I must say I still feel this is the best country in the world. A well written tribute to the English. Lydi**
