You are a bride

You are a bride

A Poem by Jvl narasimharao

You are a bride

You should not have any pride

The so called bride groom looks at your body

Thinking that you are nobody

He forgets that you have a mind and heart

You become a victim in the sport

He does not care for your art

And concentrates on your body part

You are just a toy to behold

Even though he is sold

He does not lose his hold

You will never become bold

I Am ashamed to say that  am an Indian

How long can I experience this sin?

You shoud not be a commodity

You should keep up your dignity

The society  does not have any pity

You must prove your veracity

It is a sad plight for women who are treated as this! Thank you for speaking out about it. If only ages old traditions would change - but I fear it shall be a long time in coming as they are ingrained too deeply into the way of the culture!
May more ears listen, and voices speak to make a change!!

The poem had many purposes. I told my daughters. If a man is jealous and want to control you. Run. There are many places where woman are used and abused and it is okay. This is wrong. The poem made it point and tell the story of many places in our world. Thank you for sharing the powerful poetry.

This to me sounds like an arranged marriage which is still the custom in many countries. Feeling trapped in a life that you do not want with a man you do not know. Scary situation.
