Supply and Demand

Supply and Demand

A Poem by John the Baptist
"

A meditation on values

"
Accessibility is the death
Of appreciation,

Dearth, the womb of
Desire.

Supply and demand,
As it is called.

The air surrounds us,
Its passage through our
Lungs the life of our bodies,

Yet who among us notes
The breaths taken and is
Grateful for them,

But who also would claw at
The sky if the process were
Interrupted.

Supply and demand,
Luxury and lack.

Hear me well: nothing is
Guaranteed, not even the air
We breathe,

Therefore give thanks for it
In this moment,

For appreciation welcomes the gift,
And bids it continue.

Too much of a good thing and we take it for granted. The appreciation is lost. I am particularly thinking this morning as I read this of the environment, although of course it applies to other things as well. The sunlight is streaming through my window on a cold winter morning. Boy, do I appreciate that. Your first stanza says it all. A knock out stanza. Well done.
