A Mother's Sacrifice by Dawn Olexa Book Review

A MOTHER'S SACRIFICE was my second project for Jaded Silence Press. I've been lucky so far to have been able to read the most engaging novels. This was much like the first. I didn't have a lot to do.

There were some spelling mistakes, but not many. I didn't have any paragraphing to do or indenting. It was a lot of fun to read.

The plot and story line move smoothly and in an amazing way.

The main character, Emily Blakemore, is written so well. Strong and independent, but still feels like she has to rely on a man to do what needs to be done. She's an amazingly strong woman, though I'm sure many mothers would do the same in her situation. When the unthinkable happens to her, is when she shows this inner strength. A strength she didn't know she had. She calls on the man who left her at the alter, a Homicide detective, who's still in love with.

As the book progresses, Emily realizes the mistakes she's made, and that her husband and his mother are certifiable. That the danger doesn't come from outside, but inside. Her mother-in-law, Beatrice, is planning to kill her son to protect the family. To ensure that they are prosperous. Emily knows that this can't happen – she loves her son and knows that the idea behind it is completely ridiculous.

The ex-fiancée realizes how deep the conspiracy is, how high up the people involved are. He knows that it, at the very least, involves the Chief of Police. Who knows how many more police officers and political officials are in cahoots with the psychotic mother and son.

Beatrice will do anything to protect her secret, even killing to keep it as such. She will take anyone out of the way who might threaten her “important work” of protecting her family. At any cost.

Robert Blakemore, is finally coming around to his mother's way of thinking. Realizing that she was right and never should have married Emily. When she gets in his way, will he take her out? Will he carry out his mother's plans? Or will love conquer all?

The flow of this story is easy to follow. From the memories of Emily telling Beatrice she's pregnant to finding out what Beatrice really wants with her son. To Emily's ex-finacee, Nat, agreeing to help, not matter the cost to himself.

Even the way his partner and friend, Bobby, agrees to help protect Emily and her son, Michael from his father and grandmother. Again, the no matter the personal cost.

The characters are so well written and believable, even Beatrice and Robert. Even without much description of what they look like or their personalities, your imagination leads you to create your own descriptions for them. It's a good trip for the imagination, making you stop and think. To keep reading to see if you're right in your way of thinking for each character.

The plot is believable, as well, It moves smoothly and again, the lack of description of some of the scenery, I see as a major plus. Because even without it, you can still picture it in your mind.

Many authors go with what's safe and in style, but Dawn strays and it works for her and this amazing read.

You should definitely get a copy of A MOTHER'S SACRIFICE and learn the trials and tribulations you might have to face, if your mother-in-law is a psychotic High Priestess.
