Songs for NewtownA Poem by Joshua LeanTo be
whispered to the sleeping backs of loud toddlers and the giant eyes of the
children that we were.
I
write this panegyric on the centennial of my existence. This
is a hornet,child. Listen. Let
its notes needle your nape with noisy nothings.
Now,the
world swings by you, Because
you have gone cold and speechless, What
is it that you would have said?. Tell
me,I will write these things in my corners, Until
forests grow in the parts of me that lay caked with the cries of censorious
centaurs.
And we
will fell every tree and carve with our hearts, A
world of wood where our dreams lie unashamed, Unafraid
to burn,to be forgotten,
There
is a ferry for your freckled faces, Tanks
that transport your tandem smiles, To
eyes that will color them green and blue, You
have now, rainbow rights.Let the air dance to you hue.
What
is it that you would have sang?. Speak
up,you have here a multitude of angel ears, That
sit still to let your voices rise like
the trombone. The
choirs in these throats will stand. Free
and fearless like flags, Billowing
in the wind of a new millennia.
And we
will dwell in its lethargy and make a blanket of the memories that make us fly
inbetween breaths. A nest
for the times we took Life by the hand and made it listen to the hum in our
chests, It was
the sound of together, The
sound of forever.
Never
goodbye,never goodnight, Just a
malnourished morning that will wake to your light.
I
write this panegyric on the centennial of our existence
