Misfortune

Misfortune

A Poem by Dream Weaver
"

Believe it or not this is about Alzheimer’s ...

"

I close my eyes to misfortune, memories

lost to the past, reflecting on this life I’ve

lead, how much longer will it last.

When times were good they were better

then I thought, but when they were bad it

was refuge that I sought.

My mind was clear my energy productive,

when it came to love I was so seductive.

Times have changed as I watched with fear,

I lose my train of thought with each

passing year.

Aging faster at the speed of light, no

slowing down this endless plight. I lived for

love but soon I’ll forget, everyone’s name

if I haven’t yet.

A master of writing my words now are

blank, impeded and stifled no longer swank.

I woke up this morning while getting out

of bed, not a single thought passed through

my vacant head...

Was wondering when you wrote this...you seem so young to reflect these feelings...yet I understand and share them. Eloquently stated.

You've stretched out with this one, and so movingly.

The inner world of one that knows the day will come when he will not know the day.

Excellent, poignant write!

man... this is such a powerful write... I love how you make the reader jump by moving the last word "blank" to the next sentence... genius. :)

It paints a picture of emotions. It's like we can feel you losing the thoughts. Wonderful, insightful write.

Certainly paints a picture in my mind of devastation a person feels when they cannot remember. Surely memories are our most precious treasures, to lose them must be a terrible experience indeed! Hard-hitting words, friend!

Many families are affected by this, and tragically memories are
forgotten. You've captured the sentimental elements of this disease.

Sad.. so very sad .. 'tis so easy to forget normal every day things .. life rushes us into stress, too much to think about, the mind gets muddled. But Alzheimers is something else, I wrote a poem about a dear friend's mother. Thing is, as you know, the sufferer doesnt know too much as he or she sinks into it, it's their husband or wife, parents, siblings and friends who understand what's happening - and feel absolutely helpless. Tears in her eyes, myy friend said to me - and it really hit home: 'Em, I sooo wish I could have my mother back'

Your poem is sensitively written and reminds us - those who still have thoughts and words, just how precious they are .. there by the grace of God ..

'I lived for love ~ but soon I’ll forget, everyone’s name ~ f I haven’t yet.'

A wonderfully empathic post, Joe.
