Amazing New Gadget!

A poem written to a prompt in creative writing.

Amazing new gadget, 

lets you live forever!

And see the fall,

Lets you live when no one else does,

A witness to utter lifelessness. 

It lets you watch your loved ones die

Then your relatives

On and on until there is no one left.

It lets you feel the cold bite of space on your exposed skin,

When earth is no more.

It lets you cry tears onto the sun.

Its lets you regret ever being born,

Regret stepping into that office to have it installed

(you were one of the first,

before the recall).

It lets you sleep for years, lets you wake only to weep.

All alone, you wish for death.

It lets you think and ponder until your thoughts turn you insane

It lets the world gnaw at your body,

Nothing but an alive corpse,

Brother of the Undead, son of Man.

It lets the truth of eternity destroy all rationality.

It lets you live forever.
