Clipped Wings

Clipped Wings

A Poem by John Ryan

You can have them back
The butterflies wings
you've clipped
on the night stand
next to the razor blades and Needles
Those Black cherry candles flickering the shadow of slip of smoke dancing towards the ceiling
where you are staring
wondering if I'm staring at my ceiling too

But I'm not
Instead I am stitching the
hole you burrowed into my heart
Trying rid my fingers of their touch

I still feel you touching me
Closing my eyes
like the moments with you
were equivalent to my last breath
Whispering to me about
stars and hopscotch
The whatnots you exclaimed to be
Lost in me
When there was only one painted lady
Circling to her last breath and the last beat of her maroon wings.

Powerful, powerful imagery in your lines. Hard-hitting and evocative, this brings out anguish in the reader as strongly as it seems to have roused the writer.

Good work.

Look forward to your other works,

Best,
M.
