Letters for Rainy Days

A Story by JR-Maxwell
"

Dear friend, I know things are rough, but I'm here to brighten your day. A collection of letters written to you, my readers, for whenever you need a friendly ear.

"
Dear friend,
I know times are pretty rough right about now. I was just talking to a friend of mind and pointed out that this year alone, there were hundreds of mass shootings. An exaggeration? It might be, but anyone with eyes can see the world isn't getting any better.
There are some pretty sick stories out there I could tell you about, and someday I might, but not right now. No, we all know the world is pretty dang twisted. You don't need me to tell you that.
That same friend who told me about the shootings also said something that was...well, uplifting. She told me that the people who do these things aren't people at all, but monsters. She said that just because they have the appearance of a person it doesn't mean they are. Why's that uplifting? To me, it means that there's still some good in the world. Good people who actually care, and it's times like these shootings that we truly see the support. Yeah, there could be more, but there could also be less. The world's a twisted place, but that doesn't mean it will corrupt everyone. It most certainly won't.
While the news talks about the shooting held here recently in San Bernadino, I saw someone actually get out of their car and help a person in a wheelchair get out of the car. Everyone else was just honking and asking for him to hurry it up, but then this man comes and gives him a hand. Even gave him a handshake and a smile. Then another day a girl at school was sitting in a corner crying, and even with the lesson going on another girl actually stood and quietly went over to her, just hugging her and sitting by her side, and I'd like to point out the crying girl was new. No friends yet.
I think the world's biggest problem is that no one focuses on finding the good anymore. Just the bad. Yeah, bad things are everywhere, and they need to be known of, but maybe, just maybe, if we focus on the good, the world will, too.
So, here's a little challenge to you: Whenever you go out, look for something good. Praiseworthy. It can be anywhere, real life, the internet, anything. Just don't wait for the good to come to you.
Hope this brought a a smile and a bit of hope to your life. I'll write again soon.
Love,
JR Maxwell.
