A Stranger's Backseat

A Stranger's Backseat

A Poem by JOe
"

My time in a car with friends I thought I knew

"

The back seats of best friend’s cars
In between missed inside jokes surrounding me
A left out stranger sitting with the people that I know best.

Hearing names that I know
And jokes that I can’t laugh at
Conversations go in and out
As I drift out of a life from people that don’t care that I am back here.

So they play these s****y indie bands over the speakers
All the music drowns them out,
My lungs fill with the music
As with the first few seconds of drowning
My mind blacks out " runs through images of your face
And slowly I begin to die from memories of you and I

I am along for this ride.

I am suddenly shaken back to life
By the eyes of a favorite stranger

I don’t know you anymore
I don’t know you at all.
