A Spring Sonnet for EasterA Poem by JohnLFor Fabian's Contest
A SPRING SONNET FOR EASTER
Raise up your Son Lord! Easter Day is here
Shattering the awful dark of Friday’s fear.
Resurrection bursts with hyacinth and squill
Narcissus, snowdrop, primrose, daffodil
The herbs of death, announcing man’s nadir,
Frankincense, myrrh – no longer needed here;
New budding boughs replace a cruel cross
A golden throne out-glisters sin’s dark dross.
Redemptive life springs forth upon this day
Spring’s blooms and colours light the Saviour’s way
Saints joyfully surround the mercy seat
God’s plan for our redemption is complete.
See Lord the colours springing from the earth
Proclaim in nature and mankind, new birth.
