Forgiveness ?A Poem by JohnLNot, repeat NOT autobiograhical
FORGIVENESS ? Could I but say the words I feel, That form within my heart, In manner to convince you, Break down the barriers of doubt That I – and only I – had caused to start. Yet each day as I try to tell My love’s reality, Each phrase I use Each desperate, Seemly word I choose Falls, token of my love's abuse, Hollow upon your ear? Redemption disallowed And I, no longer lover am, Despite my every plea But merely ‘comfortable friend’; Can this . . .can this . . really be? The done can never be undone; I know. That’s logic understood, Yet surely there’s redemption? Love can triumph over doubt? What must be done, What can take place In doubting’s grim morass? For surely in the scheme of life The burden of love’s proof , In mountain range of former guilt Is through a lofty pass, Too high for fortune’s fickle whim. I pass and pass and pass again, ‘Til you believe, And I receive the message, “I love you.” © 2009 JohnLFeatured Review
