Time's Opportunity

Time's Opportunity

A Poem by JohnL

A Seventieth Birthday Sonnet

Time’s Opportunity
A Seventieth Birthday.Sonnet

For a moment, listening to time go by,
We strive to learn, “What does the future show?
What’s held in store; as fleeting moments fly?”
Reflecting on our consciousness, Time’s flow.

We never wished its rate to be so fast,
Or thought to find so much of life gone by.
Some memories are best left in the past,
Others are precious, lingering in mind’s eye

The slate we write is not always wiped clean;
Some burdens travel with us it is said,
But time to come is ours – and must be seen
As chance to grasp the best life holds ahead.

My love, let’s find and take the joys to be,
For love, dear love, you’re everything to me.

Thats so beautiful writting John... I love it.. yes we all concern about the time that pass, so fast , feels like only yesterday we where teens, feree minded. The true is that I am not worry about the time left, or to know when we are going to go, but I do worry about how would it be to live that period. And as you mentioned , its in our hands, to make things , to grasp the good memories, to cherich, and not deal with the bad. To make our loves happy, to give love, to be loved, to be healthy, so many things ahead of us, we can only hope. I always impressed by your optimistic way of thinking, I learn so much from you, or at least I trt, thank you for your reviews.

What a wonderful poem! Your words are a lifetime together on 'paper', honest, sincere and loving. Those two final lines brought a lump to my throat, truly.

'The slate we write is not always wiped clean; Some burdens travel with us it is said, But time to come is ours and must be seen As chance to grasp the best life holds ahead.'

Those lines directly above too, nothing's perfect but night and day live in each other's paths, have to appreciate the one to see the other.

Thank you for sharing .
