The Noble Prize for KindnessA Poem by JohnLFor the Your Nobel Prize Contest, taking some poetic licence with the title. Sadly, Ken died a year ago, Doris remains an inspiration. Further along live Doris's sister and brother in law who operete exactly the same ministry.
Strange that the NOBEL PRIZE arose
From one whose products, I suppose
Cause death destruction
pain and woe,
anguish, loss and worldwide grief,
yet has become the accolade of peace,
Subdivided into all things fine,
Science, art and medicine
Philanthropy, the written word!
But of Ken and Doris?
Has anybody ever heard?
Unsung, across my road they live
Nothing they take, so much they give.
A hint of illness or distress
And they are there, they do not press,
But never once in time of need
Are any neighbours left alone
Unfed, uncared for, unsupplied,
Untended, or un-nursed.
Such ones as these, are they so rare?
Can kindness like this be often found
Wherever people bear
A load of sickness, sadness, pain,
Are burdened down with care?
Let’s not award a prize that many win
For service to mankind that’s of the brain
Rather, let us find a new name
For ‘Kens and Dorises’ the whole world through.
The NOBLE PRIZE FOR KINDNESS,
I think will do.
