One of a kind with no equal

Everyone is like a drop, one single drop in the rain

although none are the same

But people, society lay on us that dreadful embrace of self-doubt, insecurity and uncertainty

Forcing us in someone else's shoes

Driving us to act like someone we are not

Although

they teach us

They teach us that if you are abnormal or extremely active.

You are a aggressive, defiant

They teach our young ones with autism that their disability is a disease, carelessly telling them that they will never get to where they want to in life

They create anxiety and fear, they teach us that the best grades are everything and that even if you do your best, you will still fail and fall

Until all of the sudden, you are in your 20's sitting on a chair next to 13 year old kids and not out there

The tension, the anxiety that was caused by these assumptions these presumptions create nothing but pain

Young ones will start wondering about lost and seeking guidance, searching for someone, anyone or anything who might be able to relate to them and understand their struggles and hardships

But alas, they rarely find it

They devolve disgrace and confusion

and then they tell them: If you have depression they say "get over it." When you cry

they will presume that they cry at everything and they cannot take it. They will strip the freedom from them without any conscious nor guilt

They are but young ones and do not understand and that adults have the power

But it shouldn't be that way

Adults should act as role models

Not downers

These drops are from a wonderful rain that can help grow them into something

Unique, them selves, one of a kind with no equal.

We do forget how powerful our voice is whether spoken or seen, and all people are precious and important. The norms of society are hard to push against especially if there appears to be no other way. This piece speaks to that wonderfully. I love your perspective and how positive you are even when talking about difficult subjects. I can always feel the hope in your work. Truth and grace beautifully displayed here. It speaks...There is a problem...we can fix it...what can you do? Well written.

Your words really hit home. All of us are unique in our own way. Who would want to be a clone. Individuality is important. People shouldn't be defined by their disabilities and I totally agree that school grades aren't everything. All of us have good qualities and it is those that should be nurtured. Being different is totally ok with me. Reach for the stars I say.

I agree with you, we are all special in our own way, we dont need no books or grades or anything like that to tell us who we are.
Some of the worlds greats achived the impossible without having to open a book or was graded by a simple test.

As a mentally ill single of a parent of an 18 year old son who is on the spectrum, this hit extra hard. Depression made this a little hard to read, but it is beautiful and resonates.

No worries. I'm going to feel how I feel anyway. I have learned to cope with it. I just remind myself that I've gone through the cycling before and that it is temporary. I stay in bed a lot and hug myself, unless I have to work. Then, I just keep busy. On temporary disability I am a little hyperfocused on my son's issues, so anxiety is a big theme, but again, you learn to deal. The fact that it penetrated my numbness means you expressed what you were going for. In my case, depression isn't non-stop crying. It is complete apathy.

In this case, it is due to an illness, and there is nothing that can make the depression go but time. Just knowing that it is temporary is a great comfort, even if I am still depressed. That little spark of hope.

Depressions were never designed to stay forever, it might stay long but eventually it'll go away. Do the things you love doing to take your mind off of the depression.

Hard to do things I love when depressed, although not as hard as when I am manic. However, being productive and taking care of tasks helps. Having a checklist of things I need to accomplish. I generally will just write down quick thoughs or observations and go back to them when I am more steady. I can revisit without feeling the huge sadness or extreme high.

You can always control your thoughts, feelings and etc.. its your mind and your body, and your free to make them do as you please, and yeah writing helps and doing anything such as chores also help you and helps your mind being busy and away from the the thoughts of depression and etc, a lot of people managed to pull through and so can you.

I'm gonna have to disagree on the always can control part. The rest, yeah, but no matter what I do to distract myself, it's still there. I just have the little spark of hope to hold on and it gets me through. The same applies to the polar opposite-mania. Mania can be scary because you are telling yourself to settle down and another part of you tells you where to go. A lot of people say they like it, because they have all this energy and create. I can't do anything but get myself into trouble when manic because I simply am going too fast to sit down and focus. I have to keep myself calm enough to not be afraid of the total loss of control and I actually reassure myself by telling myself soon I will be depressed. Crazy, right?

I'm really sorry that you have to go through all of this, but if you have managed to find away to keep it in check then stay with it, you will never know, maybe eventually it will all go away.

It will never go completely, but each time I survive, each victory, gives me the strength I need to pull through. Being able to reach out for help is a net acquired strength.

Sometimes even the strongest, even with the new strength that they've obtained, might also need a hand to reach out for them.
