Remember, Spring, St. Thomas U.S.V.I.

A Poem by John M. Hammond
"

Another very personal piece. I reeeaaally need to branch out.

"

Your voice, anger and sadness coalesce.

My voice, filled with sorrow and shame.

We come together this way sometimes.

Why do we bring ourselves back here?

Imagine. The mimosa tree behind the garage.

Filled with spiritual and sentimental significance.

Long branches r e a c h i n g for the sun.

As I, for you. My longing—organic.

I want for you in profound ways.

Yearning to provide reprieve.

For serenity to flood our souls,

or simply: reality without regret.

Remember: Beautifully vast ocean liner.

The expansive bottomless blue water

caused the green in your eyes to shimmer.

Tranquility looked good on you.

We have wasted so much time.

Contentment will not find us. Hurry.

We need to take those steps.

Together, You and I. Please. Come.

Take my hand?

Let's go back to that place.

You deserve it more than most.

Tireless body becomes somnolent. Rest.

This is ridiculously beautiful. It brings out feelings of longing within me. The number one thing for me in poetry is whether or not it effects me emotionally, and this one has. Of course the structure is amazing too.
