Light and DarknessA Poem by J.MintonThis highlights our inner struggle. The struggle between greatness and damnation is within all, coiling around each other like the great serpent Jormungandr, hissing and stabbing venom into the other.
In all its terrifying glory, the conflict that defines a man is one we cannot live without. What is life without Darkness to help lost souls grow or wither? What is life without Light to help lost souls shine or burn? To destroy one is to rid the world of the other. To revere one and condemn the other hinders creation. Balance is the key to our survival, the primal Darkness and perfectionist Light at a conflict. How one chooses to address the pair, however, is how the struggle is truly born.
The overpowering venom of both man's serpents can sicken his conscience and body. No venom will render him dead. Illumination and dimming should come together to create the perfect being, a pillar of righteousness that can descend into the common folk with ease. A beacon of hope, rather than a champion for one cause.
The sky itself, a plane of pure darkness, is dotted with stars of light, some pure and some bright, some so perfect that both Light and Darkness create the color of the universe. The heavens above, the most natural realm in all of existence, displays balance and even a new form of blessed creation. If non-sentience can achieve such lengths, why can't we?
We are aware of the virtues and vices, so why can't we come to acceptance that Darkness if a part of our very souls? Cast away the ideas and people that worship the Light and damn the Dark, the ideas and people who glorify the Dark and crush the Light. You are the Light! You are the Darkness! You are not either or, you are both! Creation and destruction molded in divine image, a titanic god, a speck of dust, breathing only to carry out two contradicting wills. © 2016 J.Minton |
