Ode to Booze

Ode to Booze

A Poem by J.M. Wise

Oh Heineken, my Heineken.

Your sweet taste has eluded me.

A factor of sobriety,

But you started my undoing.

Oh, I see you brought company.

Mr. Daniels, I must presume.

Dry and bold, you were my essence;

Now you’re just a fond memory.

Is that a third party I see?

I recognize that bottle now.

It’s Bombay, pure as spring water,

Minus all of the benefits.

Pretty obvious message, just wanted to break my writing drought. Ironic that it's about alcoholism though haha

Congratulations on breaking your writing drought, and controlling your alcohol. Good for you! My husband has always suffered from insomnia, and his way of dealing with it in recent years has been to drink wine all night long. He drinks a lot of it.

I don't see a rhyme scheme here, but I see a number of lines that rhyme (me, sobriety, company, memory, see) and it makes for a fun read.

Happy New Year to you and yours!

Fun, humorous little read. It's simple, but the simplicity works wonderfully.

Thanks, I tried a little allusion from Dead Poet's Society with the into line. Glad you enjoyed
This might be one of the most original poems about booze I've ever read! Nice slow easy meander thru a few of your faves, with snappy rebuttals to show us the pains of sobriety. Very clever & relatable!
