![]() 'Have You Been Here Before?'A Poem by John Morris
‘Have You Been Here Before?’
‘Have you been here before?’ The taxi driver asked me. ‘Yes. I use to live here, a long time ago.’ ‘Why did you leave?’ ‘Why does anyone leave a sinking ship?’
I cried blood. I spat blood. I tasted Blood. He punched me again, his fist firm, His posture perfect. He hit me again.
Two weeks later; I lay in A and E. I breathed slowly; clinging on. Keeping my grip on this reality.
Crutches kept me upright, Stumbling forward, edging closer. I entered my home to see It all battered and broken.
I noticed a note placed on the desk,
Get out it read; I took the advice Got out the house then noticed a car Filled with four thugs pulling up.
My car was on the street, I needed to get there. Ditching the crutches. I ran.
My legs felt like they were breaking, I pushed myself to the door quickly opening it. They saw me and ran forward as I accelerated away.
‘What happened back then?’ ‘Just something that I need to sort out.’
