A Self-Centered Sort of Disability

A Self-Centered Sort of Disability

A Poem by Jacob Locke

She posts pictures

Of climbing Katahdin,

Dance offs,

Sky Diving,

Marathon running,

and comments;

“LOL my doctor’s would kill me

If they knew I was doing this.”

A week later

She posts pictures of a trailer

taking up a handicap spot

and comments;

“Thanks UMA…

Someone really needs that space.”

implying it is her,

because she’s disabled.

Shortly after its followed by 100 likes,

17 comments,

all talking about how inconsiderate

people can be

because she’s disabled

I chuckle to myself

How inconsiderate indeed

For her to be taking up this space

since she was 16

while scaling mountains,

dancing nights away,

diving from the stars,

and running,

always running

when so many can’t even walk...
