A Poem by John Sullivan
"

For William Blake

"
a day is promised
says a Book

prophet's path

a writhing worm
on
a
hook

cast a net
but stay and look

a mountain sings
there's a running brook

horses go mad
enter
the librarian's nook

a Sunflower Sutra

CIVILIZATION TOOK

flowers grow

and

flowers cry

you never stopped to wonder why

carry the stone

an exasperated sigh

crucified in my mind
with the lonely, bitter, and unkind

to live is to die

why rise and try?

a sacred story, there's only One to find

pride of Kings?

What is the pride of a King?

it's all of this

and every other thing

Reads like a contemplative piece on existence and the search for meaning and truth.
I like the use of line breaks to emphasize the thoughts and the control the flow.

I like the questioning and the meditative take on life, religiosity and so forth; we learn by thinking, experimenting, analyzing, comparing, sifting through and making our minds up.
Kudos!

I like the disjointed nature of the couplets and the choice to use rhyme to hold it all together.

Such a great query. Many have wondered yet no one found the answer. I loved the poem for its deeply philosophical touch, the existential question and the great imagery and fluid rhyming. Looking forward to read more of your poetry.

The happenings of nature, time goes by ; flowers do cry…for nourishment, but they must hide their pain……” to live is to die”….. that doesn’t give much hope, nor does the king….but what do kings know anyway?
