A Poem by John Sullivan

moods high or low
a garden grows

we plant
in spring

watch
for what the weather
brings

my memories
of autumn past

i wonder why these things
will never last

winter's snow
and full moon's glow

amazed
by all the things we know

it takes a life to learn
and I know
I'm slow

marking time
on
sorrow's row

but by starlit shine
I'll drink of summer's wine

and
watch the weather
change

gentle time
a friend of mine

while all the seasons range

A beautiful poem that feels like a flower blooming in faith. Troubled times don't last and you have the faith that one day you'll wake to a lovely summer. Just amazing and so positive!

I enjoyed the poetry and you are welcome.
The seasons? Like salt and pepper, they take and give in quarter time, each offering a happy nod and a sometime pout. Your words are sparse but full of meaning and intention. Sense and sensibility with ease, truth in every step and a reminder that time is a variety of colour, weather and memories... each to its own directive when brought to mind and heart.

' I'll drink of summer's wine

while all the seasons range'

Many, many thanks for sharing.

You're most kind, E
we take our cues from weather and seasons. they come and go as do circumstances in life. 'a time to reap and a time to sow'. the trick is to take them slow and adjust accordingly. roll with the punches so to speak.

Oh man, very well said. I've learned to roll with the punches well, thankfully. Cheers Pete.

Transition and the lessons from seasons are expressed beautifully.
'...gentle time
a friend of mine...'

- I feel one can say this only after experiencing each wave of life patiently and humbly.

That's so true. Patience makes us humble and strong. And you're welcome
Reflective and introspective. Time and the passing of seasons can inspire existential thinking.
Nice short and crisp lines.

This stuck out for me: "marking time on sorrow's row"
Makes me think on my own sorrows. Some get better with time, others not so much.
I liked it. Provokes thought.

The changing of the seasons is beautifully embroidered in this equally beautiful poem. I love the rhyming couplet format! You have something nice to say about each season and unlike so many people, it is lovely to read that time is your friend! I enjoyed reading your poem very much and I, thank you for sharing it, dear poet...
