Old Friends

Old Friends

A Poem by John Sullivan

old friends
old stories

we bartered ancient tales
religion abounded in those days

myths and legend

tonight I wonder as to the blood
sing songs from a score

I wonder if they've been sung before

I know the snow, I know the rain
history books perched on my head again

old friends
a curious choir

schoolyard games
and midnight's mire

Jacob walked and Jesus died

the times I lied

the times I cried

there's a time for everything
sun and moon revolve again

it is so cathartic to remember old stories and old friends and how they affected your life at that time... you do show us that religion was a big part of your life then...but things change as we get older and it's always sweet to remember those good old says and the tales they tell....nice write John

Beautiful work. This has a Simon and Garfunkle feel to it. High praise.

Reminiscing, something which becomes more commonplace as we age
but as you say, no matter what has taken place, this old globe keeps on spinning

A meditation on the past here, and it sounds as though the memories are not all pleasant ones, though no specifics are listed. In the end, though, there seems to be a resolution to it, with a slight nod to Solomon. There is indeed a time for everything, but nothing stays the same.

There is a season for everything and sometimes getting together with old friends telling tales is what the soul needs
