Cup the Heart

Cup the Heart

A Poem by JLJVarlo
"

I sure do seem to use "Tar pit" as a metaphor for depression a lot.

"
Cup the heart of the one you watch dive downward in their pain. Give a soft smile and nod, let them know their words are not in vain.

Speak a somber truth as you stand by their side, let a calming embrace smooth over, be the shoulder in which they cry.

Step back from their tar pit, back from the sucking hole of depression. To keep them company until their last breath of desperation.

Hold their hands and give them an occasional tug, it's a risky task since you might fall into the gooey muck. It's worth the sighs from their freedom, the glowing of their sweet eyes.

As you become such an importance. the value they place in you is the prize. Stroke their ego a little more, cup the lively amber heart of the one you helped stop diving downward into the dark.
