Smoke

A Story by JKHughes
"

We join our character outside a pub. *Extract*

"

....He watched her walk back inside to her friends, with her arms crossed in front of her chest to protect herself from the cold night air. He blinked slowly as if his eyelids were camera shutters taking photographs of her leaving, and let out a soft sigh as the smoke left through his nostrils.

Searching his pockets to stash his cigarette packet, while gripping his glass between his thighs as he lit another,
'She'll never love you back'
'I know'
'Don't even bother telling her'
'I won't' He told himself.

He looked down to his shoes, faked a laugh to reassure himself and returned to the table.

I like extracts like this where I have to guess what the story is all about. Well written.
