A Jester's RequiemA Poem by Jaejun KwonIn this day and age, We’re playing a fool and a jester on this stage Too cool to try in school then we get in a rage How the system got us down and I’m just amazed That we’re standing around instead of walking through this maze Living lies just for a laugh and a chuckle Only to realize we’re playing ourselves, the games called bloody knuckles And yet you yourself cannot be a winner Unless you reinvent yourself has a sinner No one wants to die fameless, Nameless, Instead live an easy life painless Yet I must ask, can you remain blameless Pure and innocent like an infant being kissed By its mother, or will you appear on the devil’s hit list? Or maybe neither. Cause through the years, I learned something can be both wrong and right We don’t live in a world of black and white I’m standing here, in this shade of gray It’s horrifying yet the beauty takes my breath away People doing evil, yet prevailing as heroes While the virtuous is failing when the clock hits zero Yes, the world is not fair, that’s easy to understand That’s what we have to deal with living as man Living with the destiny created by our own hands Whether willingly or not, this is our only shot So no use in asking why and complaining Curse at the sky, see if it stops raining Yet I must ask myself, can I be a teacher? Isn’t it like the devil in disguise being a preacher? Cause when I witness the world with my eyes I must laugh, otherwise I will cry Is my laughter coming from the truth, or illusions and lies? Am I better off mute? For I choke when I try It’s a sick joke, which lingers and pesters My mind, please ask no more, for I am merely a jester
