Peace of Mind

The light of our sun was a love-hate relationship.

He loved the warmth it provided but found its astounding light unbearable. The lights of other stars on

the other hand, were ones of peace and inspiration. With a little work he had made trips to the roof of

his apartment complex commonplace. A soft blanket, his music, and the stars above were the greatest

of escapes. In these stars he found hope and wonder, while his music lulled him slowly. Coupled

together these brought time to a standstill and his body remained as his mind drifted.

In his mind, he stood at the center of the universe watching the sparkling stars spin slowly around him.

Every star was an idea and every planet a tangent; each unique in their lives and similar in their

beginnings. This image brought order to his thoughts and great humility to his heart. It showed the

depth of the universe and him as an individual letter in the book it comprised. Thereby allowing him to

feel like a part of something greater, no matter how minute of a part he played. All the while what he

felt to be the soundtrack of his life locked him into this serene and surreal frame of mind. The soft beats

and sorrowful tones imbued him with respectful loss. For the stars he saw could be long gone, dead or

dying. Just as they live and die we do just the same. We are all created from the same core elements

that give us life. Beauty and simplicity, these words made his mental state thrive. In the chaos of life it's

these moments that keep him sane.

Unfortunately with the summer months these nights are short lived. The depth of his inner universe

slow went from cooling blue shades to and orange warmth with the coming dawn. This light brought

progressive blindness as it grew. The furthest stars began to fade then disappear behind the burning

veil. While most of these lights would return the next night, he thought of those who wouldn't. Snuffed

out just like the lives of the human beings who watched from afar. There was nothing spectacular in

their loss, but as the dying lights of stars lasted for years so did the memories of people who passed as

well. In it all there was balance in everything that exists. He stirred slowly as the image dissipated

entirely.

Adjusting slowly his eyes took in the morning light. As the day approached the world returned to all he

knew and loved. Those stars belonged to every person who walked the streets and around them stood

the cities they created. With the world revolving slowly beneath them, so many failed to see the

machine they were a part of. How it changed rapidly as parts are added and removed so effortlessly. He

smiled softly; the warmth brought him vitality despite hindering his sight. As everything changed from

dark to light he embraced it. Learning to make it all his own yet follow as he must.

Bringing in a bright new day.
