Vacation
Justin Guidroz
Colors swirl in and around my head,
spinning in the darkness of a mind
over exhausted and overexerted
throughout the day’s mundane dribbling
and methodical procedures that differ
day to day.
My shoes come off as soon as I cross the threshold
as my mind and my feet are set free.
A flick of the switch and the strike of the match,
the click of the lamp and the flare of the blaze,
the light fills up the room as do my lungs
of chemicals both cancerous and medicinal.
Lounge back into the nostalgic green couch
that moves beneath me, either from weight or sensation,
probably the first, one hit wouldn’t do that.
My mind aches and my head soars
through endless memories and giddy moments
as I drift off into the haze.
